+ OVERVIEW

At first encounter, we might associate Nick Botting's paintings with Impressionism, which held a significant role in the evolution of modern art during the late 19th century. Botting paints from life, effectively revitalizing the qualities inherent in Impressionism. His ability to intuitively capture the atmospheric essence of the spaces he portrays – whether it's people sitting and working in bars or on the street – showcases his distinct skill. He displays a particular fascination with the interactions of individuals and the ambiance of the depicted location. Botting's work draws inspiration from various sources, yet it consistently maintains a robust sense of atmosphere by wholeheartedly relying on his sensory experiences. Unlike photography, the 'moments' Botting depicts exist as distinct, standalone instances solely within the realm of the painting. These moments offer us a glimpse into the future second and encapsulate that future within the eternal present. One of the most famous pubs in Soho, which sits alongside an old coffee house (Maison Bertaux) with a striped blue awning. Nick Botting observed kitchen workers busily going between buildings and chose to depict a chef crossing the road in his striped apron as he prepares for a busy day ahead. Looking North, the sun is strong across the street and adds to the vibrancy typical of Nick Botting's London scenes.
