+ OVERVIEW

Wang Jianwei was born in Sichuan in 1958. He began his art practice in the 1970s, and he began to become a pioneer in the field of contemporary Chinese art. When he studied at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art), he read a lot of Existentialism and Chinese History. Influenced by these experiences, his early works were experimental with complicated conceptions. Since the 1990s, Wang Jianwei continues to explore the synthesis of knowledge and the interdisciplinary approach to art, experimenting with the use of different disciplines. Methodology to create a new artistic language. In 2014, Wang presented his solo exhibition, the first of three commissions of The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative at the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
