Bae Joon Sung was born in 1967 in Gwangju, South Korea. He graduated from College of Fine Arts, Seoul National University in 1990. In 1996, his first solo exhibition was held in Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul. In 2000, he obtained M.F.A. from Graduate School of Seoul National University, Seoul. In the same year, he won the Young artist Prix, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Korea. He deploys multiple mediums in his art practice, including painting, photography, and collage. Often based on historical figures or scenarios, he rethinks the re-arrangement effect of European classical masterpieces and the Asian female physicality. Since 2000, he has become globally active, hosted multiple exhibitions in art museums and institutes in Moscow, New York, London, Beijing, etc.
