+ OVERVIEW
Ju Mings famous sculptures, the "Taichi Series"was published in the late 70's, it cab be divided to single and double figures: those of individuals demonstrating their skills and postures, and those that examine the contradictory relationship between counter forces. This lot, "Taichi Shadow Boxing"is belongs to the later, it expressed the mutual delicate relationship between two boxers. Taichi involves both activity and quietude, rigidity and fluidity, perception and reality, urgency as well as other evolving elements in dialectic philosophy.
Art historian Michael Sullivan has commented, "Taichi is also a form of ritual combat in which two figures actively oppose each other. In 'Taichi Boxing ,the participant moves so that he (more rarely she) extends beyond himself. Know your enemy as well as yourself, wrote the ancient military strategist Sun Zi, and you will be invincible."
Ju Ming abstracted the form of shadow boxing and pushing hand between two boxers from Taichi. The form of shadow boxing, and the corresponding relation between spaces, later became the important key point, which making "Taichi Arch"more abstracted. This sculpture master already announced that the creations of "Taichi Series"have cut the mustard and won continue making this theme. Therefore, The supply of "Taichi Series"works is now unable to meet the demand in art market, and the "Taichi Shadow Boxing"is more hard to find in it.
