+ OVERVIEW
Born in 1933, American Pop artist James Rosenquist began his career as an apprentice billboard painter. By chance, in 1955, he received a scholarship from the Art Students League of New York, which allowed him to study art in New York. Rosenquist’s work combined the monumental style of commercial billboards, yet without conveying advertising messages. Instead, he focused on familiar everyday objects and juxtaposed seemingly unrelated elements within the picture, leaving viewers with space for imagination.
