+ OVERVIEW
British artist Dominic Johnson Hill's paintings have many familiar elements of Chinese culture such as cheongsams, Chinese floral decorations and the God of Wealth. Also, if you take a look closely, you will find various cruel slogans or jokes, such as "Great oaks from little acorns grow, but which one is my home?", "The daydream of Hong Kong, the bubble of golden house" and other ironic sayings about Hong Kong's real estate market. The artist was originally from Beijing and have moved to Hong Kong for many years, where he founded the T-shirt brand “Plastered 8”. The works "Bull Market Blast Off" and "Selfie Destruction" in this auction are signed by the artist with Plastered 8. This series is called "Lost the Plot". It is inspired by traditional Chinese firecracker packaging and combined with the real estate market to create works that resonate with local culture.
