Bamboo exhibits physical qualities such as a straight exterior and hollow culm, symbolizes humility and fidelity because its ability to survive harsh weather as it is likely for it to bent but rarely breaks. It is a plant that is very dear to the Chinese population since many objects are made of bamboo. Compare with a jade vase worked in the form of bamboo with bamboo leaves from the Collection of the Asian art museum of San Francisco, illustrated in Later Chinese Jades – Ming dynasty to early twentieth century, San Francisco, pl.290, p.268.
