+ OVERVIEW

Richard Caldicott: A Contemporary Photography Artist Admired by Sir Elton John "Richard has the unique ability to transform the medium of photography, creating something new, but still using the most traditional technique. Richard is one of those artists who elevates photography to an important and recognized form of contemporary expression." – Sir Elton John Born in 1962 in the UK, Richard Caldicott is an artist specializing in abstract photography and paper-based compositions. He holds a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London and currently resides in the city. A multidisciplinary artist, Caldicott explores various materials and techniques, including painting, photography, and sculpture. His photographic collages and paper negatives, often presented as diptychs, embody a refined aesthetic of purity and precision. His work is deeply connected to architectural structures, musical compositions, formalist principles, and geometric abstraction, drawing inspiration from modernist painters, designers, and architects such as Donald Judd, Max Bill, Barnett Newman, and Ellsworth Kelly. Repetition is a key element in his art, echoing the minimalist movement, and his works are frequently produced in series. As writer Derek Horton observed, “Caldicott is a quintessential advocate of the ‘serial creative process.’” Caldicott's work has been exhibited in solo and group shows worldwide and has been featured in major art fairs, including FIAC (Paris), Art Basel, Paris Photo, Photo Miami, and the Venice Biennale. His works are collected by prestigious collections, including the Sir Elton John Collection, Goldman Sachs, and Clarks UK.
