+ OVERVIEW

Chang Ling’s studies brought him to France in 1996, and there he quickly latched on to new movements in contemporary art. Since returning to Taiwan in 2005, he has not let go of his intellectual pursuit and exploration of creative freedom and subjectivity in contemporary Taiwanese culture. In his perspective of this memory, which reflects the artist’s self, is also part of the unique creative style of his motherland, which brings his practice back to its original inspiration: Humanity.

The Pork Belly series penetrates the mountains and waters, flowers and birds, the civilization of urban civilization and weapons. The screaming and roaming blood is poured on the cultural track of the meat world, and the spiritual liberation of the Flesh Religion will end the reincarnation of the meat world. “Flesh Religion”is the enormous evolution which ends the sublimation but creates the origins. The end is not just Nirvana, Western Paradise and Garden of Eden. Chang Ling focuses on the painful struggle for the unparalleled attachment to the flesh and giving up emotions and desires. Through the pink oily pork belly pieces, the twisted face and the overlapping and entangled torso nakily presents the contradictory yearning for the unknown divinity. Crossing ancient myths and end-time prophecies, Chang Ling could not let go of that lovely heart even after pulling away the beautiful soul from humanity.

“Pork Belly Series - Flesh Religion - Angel Yield Tiger”, taken from the charm of mythology and faith in the flesh religion, shows a unique nature in the era of the collision of East and West culture. The figure appears as the angel of St. George in western classical painting. Instead of a common sword, the angel carries the hammer and chisel of Lei Zhenzi, chasing the tiger in the sky. Like but not limited to calligraphy and martial art, the classic characteristics and humor in Changling's works can't help but make people smile.
