+ OVERVIEW

...Wang Keping steps outside of all notions of style – his art is dictated by nature. His artistic vocabulary is still unknown to the world of figurative sculpture. Let us not forget that Mondrian found geometric abstraction when contemplating tree branches in winter.

...Wang Keping declares: "In my sculpture, I strive to find that which is universally in primitive Chinese form and the further I go to the origins of this art, the close I am to my idea of contemporary art."

As for me, I declare that Wang Keping is one of the few artists with the capacity to change the evolution of contemporary art.

- Excerpts from his essay for the "Wang Keping" catalogue; Bertrand Lorquin, Curator of the Maillol Museum, Paris
