A FAMILLE ROSE ‘LOTUS’ VASE DAOGUANG AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
The ovoid body rising to a gently flared neck above the straight footrim, intricately enameled on the body with the alternating auspicious character Ji and blossoming stylised lotus in between a gilt Buddhist swastika symbol and a ruyi suspending a pendant tassel, amidst a dense foliate lotus scrolls, all set in between stiff lappets at the foot and an alternating band of ruyi heads and auspicious bats at the shoulder, the neck similarly decorated below another band of ruyi heads on the rim, the base inscribed with four characters vertically in iron red.

The intricate decoration motif against a rich famille rose ground manifest the majestic elegance of the present lot. While the swastika is a Buddist symbol expressing the good omen of wan. The presence of auspicious bats, wan and lotus scrolls formulate the rebus for hungfu wannian, which translates to ‘great fortune for myriad years.’ Compare a similar vase exhibiting a similar decorative motif from the Huaihaitang Collection, illustrated in Ethereal elegance, porcelain vases of the Imperial Qing, The Huaihaitang Collection, pl.135, p.374.
