Cheng Nunghsuan was born in Taipei in 1983 and graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the National Taipei University of the Arts. His works have been recognized with awards such as the Taiwan New Art Award, the Kaohsiung Award,, and are collected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. Recent exhibitions include 2019 Osaka Art Expo, Instinc Art Space, Singapore, Eslite Gallery and AKI Gallery. In his early works, Cheng conveyed his personal emotional interpretations of everyday social relationships through portrait paintings that were erased or altered. In recent, he juxtaposes, simulates, and reshapes narrative techniques and styles from various periods in art history, using classical painting to create a fantastical sense reminiscent of watching a stage play, seeking tangible and intangible distances between the viewer and the artwork. While Cheng's artistic concepts originate from life experiences and extracted content, they undergo multiple transformations, gradually disconnecting from the roots.
