Teng Pu Chun was born in Hualien in 1957 and graduated from the National Taiwan University of Arts in 1984. He is a modern Taiwanese ink painting artist who creates unique depictions of dark worlds, offering an escape into the intangible and shaping a new era of literature in painting.
Teng Pu Chun has Aboriginal heritage and worked for many years behind the mountains in Hualien and echoes of the deep greens of the forests and mountains and the startling blues of the seas on the East Coast can be seen in his work, like footprints on the canvas, a hidden song of the four seasons.
Some of his works look like pointilism but are actually composed of tiny characters written in calligraphy – a technique belonging to China of old. His works are finely detailed, pure and graceful. Teng simplifies his subjects and separates the wheat from the chaff to depict a paradise in his work.
