Heo Suyoung was born in Incheon, South Korea. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts and Design, and finished his graduate in the School of Fine Arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology. His work gives clear impression as a Korean artist.
Heo Suyoung has constantly conveyed all elements into one canvas that he chose as his subjects. Motivated by images in the encyclopedia, such as plants and insects, his work pours all images into a canvas from the first page to the last. The work ‘100 Caterpillars with Nepenthes’ is a whole book turned into a painting. Like the process of transcribing a book, every image is moved on to the canvas. These reconstructed images are a record of the memory of countless visual information created during the process and it is about discovering the unrevealed relationships of images from the book. His painting series, ‘YangSandong’, seems like simple landscapes of Yangsan-dong at first sight. It is in fact the four seasons of Yangsan-dong and he tries to create an immense landscape of his inner world in a limited space through the multiple layers he has applied on the canvas.
