WANG Pan-youn 王攀元
Taiwanese 1912-2017
Wang Pan-youn was born in a rich and noble family from the Village of Hsu Ja Hung in the north of the Jiangsu Province. Wang studied painting at the Shanghai Fine Arts School. His teachers included Liu Haisu, Pan Yu-liang, and Pan Tianshou. In 1949, Wang moved to Taiwan and began teaching at Lo-tung High School. After his first show at International Gallery in Taipei, he respectively showed at Spring Gallery (1979), Taipei Fine Arts Museum (1983), National Museum of History (1987) and Taiwan Museum of Art (1992). Wang was awarded with the Golden Rank award by the Painting Association of the ROC. His memories, "A Play by Heaven: the Story of Wang Pan-youn", was published in 1994. In 2001, the National Museum of History held a 90 years' retrospective exhibition of his works and published a large catalogue titled "In Pursuit of Solar Perfection, Paintings of Wang Pan-youn a Self-Selection". Wang was awarded one of the 2002 winners for the National Award for Arts.
