SHI Lu 石魯
Chinese 1919-1982

Shi Lu was known as Feng Ya-Heng, born in Sichuan. He was a modern Chinese painter with an early education at the Chengdu Dongfang Academy of Arts, later admitted to Shanbei National College to practise prints and Chinese Paintings at a later stage. He founded the Changan School of Arts in 1959. Shi Lu excelled in Figure, Landscape and Flower-and-Bird paintings. His works were made with a realistic approach in his eary career, dominating in the theme of revolution. Landscape with acute cliffs such as Huashan, and lotus paintings became more prevalent in his later career. He was influential in the development of Chinese art, as he was the managing director of both the China Artists Association, China Calligraphers Association, president of Shanxi Artists Association, Shanxi Calligraphers Association and Shanxi Guohua Yuan, and the committee member of the Fine Art Museum of Research Institute of Traditional Chinse Paintings. His publications include the Paintings of Shi Lu and a movie script of Eagle in the Storm.
