Tao Shou-bo, also known as Tao Chi-fen, and the Master of Wanshi House, was born in Wuxi of Jiangsu. Early in his art career, he followed calligraphers Tang Bo-qian and Chao Shu-ru, while specializing in calligraphy, seal carvings and engravings. Later, he followed Zhang Da-qian, specializing in painting landscapes, vegetation and flowers, notably plum blossoms. Aside from imitating ancient paintings, he often observed the flower in gardens. Hence he was renowned for his talents in paintings, calligraphy and literature, and was acclaimed as the King of Plum blossoms in Taiwan. His fame spread worldwide, after holding solo exhibitions in the North America, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Southeast Asia.
