Cheng was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1953. Graduating from the World College of Journalism and Communications in Taipei, Cheng became active in the art world during the 1980s and 90s. Holding numerous exhibitions both in Taiwan and abroad, Cheng’s atmospheric landscape oil paintings garnered international attention, resulting in the artist’s receipt of the Hsiung-Shih Award for Creativity in 1992.
