HO Kan 霍剛
Taiwanese 1932
Ho Kan was one of the founders of "Ton Fan Group." While studying at the department of Fine Arts, National Normal Unviersity, Taipei, he learned drawing from Lee Chun-shan. "Ton Fan Group" is the earliest group of modern painting founded in 60th century. In order to make the Chinese painting reborn, they all sought for the development from the west and try to get the novel ideas and techniques. Leading the eastern spirit, Ho left Taiwan in 1964. He involved in the field of western art for more than thirty years and never gave up. While he was in Italy, he shocked by Pollock, Kline and Klee whom moved the words' art from east. His calligraphic compositions feature the fun-filled effects of large colour blocks created from seal stone and bronze pressings, combined with the mystery of surrealist forms and the unique "sculpture-graphic quality" of Ho's works. The serene yet moving qualities of his works reflect his attempt to express the poetry of cosmic space and his conceptual emphasis on eternity and infinity.
