Yosuke Ueno (born 1977 in Yamaguchi, Japan) is a self-taught and internationally acclaimed artist who previously resided in Chiba. His artwork immerses viewers in a magical journey that merges real and surreal worlds, filled with symbols from Eastern philosophical traditions and icons from contemporary Japanese and Western media culture. From an early age, Ueno began creating original characters and drawing, drawing inspiration from toys, packaging art, and forms of pop culture like manga and anime, often considered elements of "youth culture." His first solo exhibition was held in Yamaguchi in 1994 when he was only sixteen.
Also known by the name Spaceegg77, Ueno has exhibited his work across Asia, the United States, and Europe. As a teenager, his art often featured darker and more negative themes focused on death, sadness, and psychological struggles. However, in his twenties, he chose to pursue a more uplifting direction, creating art filled with positivity, love, and light. His recent works are characterized by vibrant colors, fantastical characters, and symbolic elements that explore the tension between reality and dreams.
