PENG KANG LUNG 彭康隆
Taiwanese 1962
Born in Hualien, Taiwan in 1962 and graduated from the Ink Painting Section of the Art Department at Taipei National University of the Arts in 1988. Peng is a leading artist in his field, is skilled at innovation with ink and his works blend modern opinion with traditional natural philosophy. He combines traditional ink and water with new materials and techniques to create highly individual pieces which have been hot topics of conversation in the Chinese-speaking world over recent years. Peng has been invited to exhibit his work in many galleries and exhibitions across the world, including the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the Beijing Art Expo and the Citizen Art Shanghai. His works have attracted the attention of collectors worldwide, and in 2005 his piece "Fleeting Life" was purchased by the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi. Plants, trees, flowers and shoots are all frequent subjects of Peng’s work, which invoke the greater universe through plants and invite viewers to reconnect with nature on a spiritual level. He leaves less white space in his work than others, instead choosing to fill his landscapes with blossoms and branches spiralling ever outward. Ink flows from the tip of Peng’s brush in thin suggestions and thick jumbles as he patiently creates finely-detailed images on the canvas, telling stories with all the grace of prose and poetry that can be read and re-read over and over to discover new hints and secrets. The work of Peng Kang Lung never fails to delight the senses. Selected Exhibitions: “Souls for Stones and Ink for Water Solo Exhibition”, Taipei County Cultural Center, 1998 Piao Piao Gallery Solo Exhibition, 2005 “Echos of the Mountains”, Ink Painting Solo Exhibition, Piao Piao Gallery, 2008 “Monuments Littering the Landscape”, Piao Piao Gallery, 2012 “Stone through Flower and Leaf – The Modern Ink Paintings of Peng Kang Lung”, Yi&C.
