Etsu Egami 江上越

Born in Chiba, Japan in 1994, she graduated from the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2016. She grew up in Japan, but also has living experiences in both the United States and Europe, and finally settled in Beijing, China. She is currently studying for a doctorate at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China. Because of her experience with the cultural shock from different countries and languages during her childhood, she often felt barriers in communication, so gradually deepened her interest in language communication. Her early works include mediums such as sound, video and painting, provide a more human nature and international perspective by exploring the authenticity of human instinct and communication. Etsu Egami has won several awards, including the 2020 Outstanding Artist from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan and the 16th Chiba City Art and Culture Newcomer Award in 2018. Her main solo exhibitions: "God’s Voice, Human’s Words?", DEHAIRI Projects, Tokyo, Japan in 2016 and "This is not a mishearing game", de Sarthe Gallery, Beijing, China in 2016.
