+ OVERVIEW

In the 1980s, the Pop art artist Jeff Koons burst onto the art scene with a blend of styles encompassing pop culture, conceptual art, and banality. His artworks have since become classics in the annals of art history. Simultaneously, he holds the record for the highest auction sales among living artists worldwide. Known as "The King of Kitsch," Koons himself attributes his inspiration to his relationship with his young son, notions of transcendence, and a perpetual connection with beauty. Koons' iconic 'Celebration' series radiates optimism and positivity. The series employs shapes and colors, along with delicate, shiny mirror reflections that capture both the viewer and the artwork's silhouette. This allows viewers to appreciate the work from various angles, gaze upon balloons symbolizing happiness, and rediscover their inner world from an optimistic standpoint. One of the notable pieces from the 'Celebration' series is 'Red Diamond,' created in 1994, which also includes the famous 'Balloon Dog' and 'Hanging Heart.' These artworks fetched record-breaking prices in the world of contemporary art. 'Hanging Heart' and 'Diamond' (1995-2006) set records, selling for US$23.56 million and US$11.8 million, respectively, in New York's evening sales. The stainless steel sculpture 'Rabbit' (1986) also holds the distinction of achieving the highest price ever for a living artist, at US$91.1 million, a record that stands to this day. Koons' well-known mirror reflection technique is a recurring theme in his series of creations, including the fifty-two intricately cut surfaces and facets of 'Red Diamond.' This high level of reflectivity, coupled with exquisite surface treatment, not only interacts with the surrounding environment but also offers viewers a constantly evolving experience in various unique settings. The aesthetics of 'Balloon Dog' exude a distinctly contemporary vibe, blending modern sculpture outlines with an interactive, minimalist art installation. Jeff Koons himself explained that the 'Balloon Dog' in the 'Celebration' series carries no hidden meaning; it represents pure happiness and joy, much like the balloon animal crafted by a clown at a birthday party. Simultaneously, it serves as a Trojan horse harboring its own internal life and significance.
